Last week, we attended Cereals Event, the UK’s premier farming event, where we had the opportunity to showcase our latest innovations: the MDX4A molecular diagnostics platform and our new Grow Smarter Playbook: Winter Wheat edition.
Across dozens of conversations with forward-thinking farmers and agronomists, three clear messages emerged, each pointing to a growing demand for early, actionable, and sustainable decision-making support on the farm.
1) Early Detection Must Be Truly Early — Pre-Symptomatic
The term “early detection” gets used a lot, but for farmers, its meaning is specific and critical. What we heard time and again:
“If I can see it, it’s already too late.”
Farmers equate true early detection with pre-symptomatic insight, being able to detect disease or pest pressure before visual signs appear. That level of foresight isn’t possible with conventional tools or field observation alone. Only molecular detection methods like those used in our MDX4A platform can reliably detect pathogens before symptoms develop, allowing growers to intervene earlier, smarter, and more selectively.
2) Data-Driven Spraying = Less Risk, Less Waste
Growers are under pressure to reduce chemical inputs, but they won’t take unnecessary risks with their crops. The takeaway from Cereals? Farmers want real-time, field-specific information to help them decide if, when, and how to spray.
The goal is simple:

All without compromising yield or crop health. With accurate disease and pest pressure data, farmers feel more confident adjusting spray schedules, making decisions that are both agronomically sound and environmentally responsible.
3) Sustainability Is a Priority—But So Is Certainty
Input reduction is no longer just about cost-saving. More and more farmers are motivated by sustainability and long-term land stewardship. But that doesn’t mean they’ll gamble on uncertain outcomes. What they need are tools that reduce the risk of reducing inputs.
