Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) is one of many quarantine pathogens of potato in Europe & North America. This case-study demonstrates the detection of a broad range of PSTVd isolates using the development of a reverse transcription loop-medicated isothermal (RT LAMP) assay and validation of the assay using the OptiGene Genie II instrument.
Using the RT-LAMP
In this use case the assay was proven to be c.10 times more sensitive than the conventional reverses transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay typically used. The benefits of the RT-LAMP assay & instrument solution included rapid sample to detection results of 15-25min compared to potentially multiple days with lab based RT-PCR, cost effectiveness by lower assay cost and time saved in carrying out the test, proven ability to carry out the test in-the-field using the portable Genie II instrumentation.
