Insights from Agri-Tech Expo North
We recently attended Agri-Tech Expo North, where we showcased Genie III and our latest innovations in rapid, real-time disease detection. Engaging with farmers and industry experts gave us valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in Agri-Tech adoption. These key takeaways highlight what we learned and how we can drive meaningful change in the sector.
1) Farmers Need Clear, Customised Insights to Drive Technology Adoption
Farm businesses are increasingly looking to integrate innovation and new technologies into their day-to-day operations to overcome challenges. They are actively seeking solutions to address sustainability targets and climate change pressures. However, from our farmer-led conversations at the expo, it became evident that the Agri-Tech industry must do more to answer a crucial question: “What does this mean for me and my farm?”
Providing customised data on how an innovation or technology solution will perform in a farmer’s unique circumstances is key to building confidence and trust while reducing risks. As an industry, we need a coordinated approach to prioritise farmer-led trials, accelerating data collection and delivering faster, tailored outcomes.

2) Designing for Scale: The Key to Long-Term Adoption
To ensure that new technology moves beyond early adopters and innovators and does not become obsolete, Agri-Tech solutions must be designed with scalability in mind from the outset. Too often, innovations fail or do not progress beyond the research stage because their real-world, day-to-day impact on farm businesses is not fully considered.
A farmer-led design approach throughout the product development cycle is critical to ensuring technology adoption. By integrating farmers into the design process, we can develop solutions that are practical, scalable, and impactful.
3) Real-Time Disease and Pest Detection: A Precision Agriculture Game Changer
We heard overwhelming support for real-time, pre-symptomatic disease and pest detection as a critical tool for precision agriculture and integrated pest management. Farmers want simple, easy-to-use solutions that deliver real-time results within the farm environment, allowing them to take swift and effective action.
However, technology alone is not enough. Farmers need solutions that seamlessly integrate into decision-support ecosystems. Providing detection insights is just one part of the equation; ensuring these insights lead to tangible improvements in yield, quality, and input efficiency is essential.
