OEM Agreement between OptiGene and Toshiba
OptiGene Limited of the United Kingdom and Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation are pleased to announce that they have signed an OEM agreement for the Genie® DNA isothermal amplification systems. This agreement allows Toshiba to market the Genie® instruments and reagents as their own brand both in Japan and other countries.
As light and compact devices, the Genie® instruments employ isothermal amplification, enabling rapid DNA and RNA amplification with real-time fluorescence detection. At the request of the government of the Republic of Guinea in West Africa, this past April the Japanese government sent the device as part of the emergency supplies for treating the Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) along with an EHF quick test kit that had been co-developed by Nagasaki University (hereinafter “Nagasaki University”) and Toshiba Corporation (hereinafter “Toshiba”).
Through a corporate restructuring scheduled for December 2015 (see http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/ir/jp/news/index_j.htm), Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation will acquire Toshiba’s DNA test system business responsible for commercializing GenelyzerTM II, a DNA test device equipped with a unique current-sensing DNA chip that allows for the multi-item and batch testing of genes. The acquisition of this business along with the strength of the Genie® in quick molecular testing and the reagents and enzymes provided by OptiGene will boost the lineup of molecular testing solutions as the business expands and accelerates within in-vitro diagnostics (IVD).
